The first chapter provides a short overview of lead poisoning and ways to protect children, including a diet helpful in inhibiting the body from absorbing lead. Chapters 2 and 3 offer step-by-step instructions for surveying the home for hazards and stabilizing, cleaning and maintaining a lead-safe home.
Chapter 4 focuses on how to hire a professional lead hazard control designer or contractor, and Chapter 5 outlines key lead-safe work practices that anyone involved in lead hazard control work should be following. The appendices offer instructions on testing and sampling, correct cleaning, site protection, safety and essential maintenance practices.

Author and Illustrator Dennis Livingston is the director and founder of Community Resources which designs and implements residential projects that focus on solving urban residential environmental problems.
Dennis Livingston is involved in many of the policy making bodies such as the EPA's Title X Task Force and HUD lead grantee programs charged with implementing the processes needed to prevent children and others from exposure to residential lead hazards and related problems associated with residential environmental hazards.
