Fund Development Consultant
Senior Housing Advisor - Green Building

Background: The National Center for Healthy Housing is dedicated to creating safe and healthy homes for children through practical and proven steps. NCHH conducts research on methods to assess environmental hazards in the home and on measures to reduce those hazards, especially for children. NCHH designs practical strategies to incorporate healthy housing practices into the work of the public health and affordable housing communities and promotes these strategies through training, education and outreach, policy advocacy, and partnership programs. Fund Development Consultant

SCOPE OF WORK

Respondents may propose to carry out one or both of the tasks below.

1) Periodic fund-raising counsel to NCHH to strengthen the organization's resource development operations. These services may include, but will not be limited to: assessment of NCHH's existing fund-raising strategies and systems; and development of key strategies and success measures; and fund-raising training and professional development activities for staff and/or volunteers. This task is expected to entail 5 days of consulting, including at least one day at NCHH's place of business, at a date mutually agreed upon by both parties.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

Ten (10) years or more of fundraising and fund development experience (preferably with large or national nonprofits), including demonstrated success managing strong foundation, corporate relations, and individual giving programs.
Experience with grant and proposal writing; board development and training; gift planning; and benchmarking best practices studies.
Outstanding strategic planning and program evaluation skills.
Excellent interpersonal skills.
Must be able to work independently, adapt to changing priorities and multi-task to meet deadlines.
Knowledge of and relationships with housing, health, child well-being and environmental funders is a plus.

Deliverable: Brief 3-5 page evaluation of current development efforts and recommendations for strengthening them.

2) Planning and execution of a special fund-raising event in Boston, Massachusetts. This task is expected to entail ten (10) days of dedicated fund-raising counsel to NCHH, including at least one (1) on-site day at NCHH's place of business, at a date mutually agreed upon by both parties. Consultants responsibilities under this task will include supporting NCHH's Marketing and Development Officer and Executive Director and partners in implementing a highly successful event by: assisting with the overall strategy for the event; creative development of event messages and themes and review of collateral materials; identification of potential corporate and individual sponsors for the event and oversight of implementation of sponsorship outreach (NCHH will maintain responsibility for approaching sponsors as well as logistics).

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

Must have experience securing sponsorships for, and managing successful special events of varying sizes.
Must have demonstrated experience planning unique events through outstanding planning skills and creativity.
Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills.
Excellent writing, editing and proofreading, and speaking skills.
Must be able to work independently, adapt to changing priorities and multi-task to meet deadlines.

PERIOD OF PERFORMANCE

May 5, 2008 and November 30, 2008

STATEMENT OF QUALIFICATIONS

Interested firms should submit a brief (2 page) statement of qualifications including examples of past performance related to the aforementioned tasks. Resumes for key personnel should also be included and are not included in the two page limit (please do not include more than two 2-page resumes). In addition, interested firms should provide a proposed budget. The budget should include a breakdown of the daily or hourly rates and the number of days of consultation by task. Travel and incidental expenses should also be included in the quotation.

Senior Housing Advisor - Green Building

JOB SUMMARY

The National Center for Healthy Housing (NCHH) seeks to support developers and housing professionals in the development of homes that promote health, conserve energy and natural resources, and enhance access to jobs, schools, and services.

This position will manage many aspects of NCHH's green building work, including managing grants, providing technical assistance and training, partnership development, and public policy advocacy. The position requires some travel. The Senior Housing Advisor reports to NCHH's Deputy Director.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Facilitate regular communication with partners and build collaborations to achieve NCHH's strategic priorities vis-à-vis green building.
Develop and deliver green building training and presentations for key audiences.
Lead and drive strategic initiatives, ensuring effective project management.
Manage grant awards and disbursement process and tracking.
Collaborate with NCHH's research department to support program evaluation and best practice documentation.
Support NCHH's fundraising and communications activities related to green building.
Support NCHH's public policy activities related to green building.

QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor's degree required; an advanced degree is desirable. A degree in building science, architecture, construction, structural engineering, or a related field is preferred.
Building/construction field or management experience is required.
Expertise and training in residential energy efficiency, building science, or green building is desirable.
Excellent organizational and project management skills; ability to effectively coordinate the movement of multiple projects.
Ability to develop strategic goals and deliver results against them.
Familiarity with architectural design, construction, real estate project management, public planning, and/or public administration using or promoting Green Building practices. LEED accreditation is a plus.
Excellent skills with word processing (Word), Excel, and PowerPoint.
Superior oral and written communication skills; superior editing and proofreading skills.
Proven experience coordinating cross-functional processes (i.e., research, training, policy, marketing/development).
Adept management of staff, individuals, and situations, both internally and externally.
Superior judgment in all aspects of work; is highly creative and generates substantial new program ideas.
Superior presentation and negotiation skills, able to represent NCHH at conferences and major public events.
Superior interpersonal skills.
Ability and willingness to travel (20%).
