The Library of Low-Cost Lead Hazard Reduction Options

The Library of Low-Cost Lead Hazard Reduction Options is a listing of construction specifications that may be used to develop a scope of work for housing-based lead hazard reduction activities. The specification options are intened to at least temporarily reduce lead-based paint hazards; permanent elimination of such hazards would require lead abatement specifications, which are not included in this lisiting.

All specifications are relatively low cost in nature although actual costs may vary be city, state and region. herefore, the suggested "unit of measure" and "total unit cost" provided for each specification represents a general average. Users of the specifications should calculate costs based on prevailing rates and conditions in their respective areas.

The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) would generally consider these specifications to constitute examples of "interim controls," which can be performed by workers trained in an approved lead-safe work practices training course. However, users should consult with state authorities to determine if special training and certification requirements would apply to those individuals who will conduct work following these specifications. For more information about free lead-safe work practices training courses currently being offered through HUD, go to the National Lead Listing website at www.leadlisting.com or call the HUD Lead Paint Compliance Assistance Center at 1-866-HUD-1012.
