NCHH Annual Board Meeting 2006
November 8-9, 2006
Providence, Rhode Island
On November 8-9, 2006, NCHH held its annual Board meeting in Providence, Rhode Island. The Board participated in a "local learning tour" hosted by several local partners at various sites. The first stop was the Walker House where the Board learned about its historical significance from Kurt Bagley. The Walker House is used as a training location for nursing students to help them learn about environmental health hazards that may be present in their clients' homes. The Board joined Peter Marino in an inspection of the property for health and safety code violations. Following that, the Board toured Hasbro Children's Hospital, an outstanding facility with a broad array of children's health programs. The Board met with Dr. Robert Klein, director, Asthma and Allergy Center at Hasbro Children's Hospital and Christopher Camillo, program coordinator, Community Asthma Programs. Finally, the Board joined Roberta Aaronson and Elizabeth Colon at the Childhood Lead Action Project headquarters where they learned about local lead poisoning prevention successes and future plans. Childhood Lead Action provided an excellent tour of several neighborhoods targeted for lead hazard control. The group also visited the Greater Elmwood Neighborhood, which was part of an early lead demonstration project funded by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.
